| EDITORIAL |
Friends,
We welcome you all to the FIRST issue of our Newsletter, which shall be a bimonthly circulation henceforth.
On 14th February 2003 my Birthday as well as Valentine Day) we became Gujarat’s 1st Surveyors’ firm accredited with ISO 9001:2000 certification. With this we have took birth amongst probable 5 Surveyor firms in India having this International Quality Standard certification. |
 |
We thank all the Insurance Companies and the esteemed clientele who gave us the opportunity to prove ourselves on the job and assist them in just settlement of the claims for past 5 years.
It is a fact that Insured deposits premium to safeguard himself or his property against any unexpected and undesired eventuality. Thus risk is the essence of Insurance and how well this word risk is conceived and understood by all concerned decides the effectiveness of the system.
In the fast changing scenario, the role of SURVEYORS is becoming more and more crucial and decisive. It is in true sense the Survival of the very very fittest only. Gone are the days when Insurance Company could wait for that particular surveyor - no matter how long the deceased had to wait…. gone are the days that the Surveyor could wait for obtaining another job from some other company after securing one job from that territory and then line up his both the jobs…. Gone are the days when we can say 'I will do it tomorrow'.
TODAY and RIGHT NOW are the words-which will now be found always in use and those who firmly believe the strength of these words can expect a bright future. Rest of them will have to say GOOD BYE to this highly professional and demanding career.

| ISO THROUGH F.A.Q. |
|
Q. Why is it needed for Surveyors? |
| A. There is no difference between any other industry process and Surveyors’ work for ISO certification. Because Surveyor’s role is very crucial to facilitate proper settlement of the claims within purview of stringent regulations set forth by I.R.D.A. it is imperative that the Surveyor’s job carry high quality standards, consistency in presentation of the facts, error free assessment, transparency at all levels of operations, time bound commitment, with customer focus. In order to make all these ingredients be available at all times it is good to have an ideal process to follow and that is where ISO finds its utility. It not only sets the wheel in rotation but also designs the process in well-defined manner in the first instance. |
|
| |
Q. When IRDA has set all the regulations in place for the working of Surveyors, what is the need of ISO? |
| A. IRDA provides the desired inputs for Surveyor’s role. However, to achieve that one has to have a system in place and that is the reason why ISO will make a BIG difference. |
|
| |
Q. What difference it has made to your organization? |
| A. We are greatly benefited. Not only in terms of setting the right system but it is rewarding too. With ISO in action, we have built up a healthy work culture with CUSTOMER ORIENTED APPROACH and we are proud today to say that we have now shifted from a personality driven Company to a process driven Company and thus our CUSTOMERS can be rest assured of consistent quality output at all times. |

| ISO IN SIMPLISTIC TERMS |
 |
Mr Deepak Bhan, from Insways Technologies explained how the ISO company will help not only to the insurance companies but most importantly to its customers and the general public. He gave an example of the Halwai shop preparing jalebis and sevaiyas. He mentioned that ISO takes the company away from personality driven output to process driven output. The jalebis are personality driven and its shape varies with the mood of the halwai, whereas sevaiya coming out from a particular dye always carries uniform shape- irrespective of the mood of the Halwai. |

| MESSAGE FROM MR. G. V. RAO – ex C.M.D. Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd. |
Why Keep people working full time when you need them for a few days in a week? Hire them back for fees to be paid and not salaries. Fees are paid for the work accomplished, whereas salaries are paid for the time put in. And both are not the same. Organizations in the past have been investing work to keep people busy and not the other way around .
There is now fresh thinking on outsourcing jobs and holding people accountable for results promised. There is a new pattern to work remuneration and jobs emerging in the world of work. Full-time jobs to part time jobs, and self-employment, will figure the future whipping up creativity and talent to stay relevant. People instead of scurrying to climb the corporate ladder will develop a product, service or skill, as assets that they will be able to market at a price. Portfolio of skills is what the future generation will aim at acquiring and marketing.
What people in the future will look for are roles to be enacted like in the cinema industry. They will want a challenge and an opportunity for making money in their professional fields. They seek customers, and not jobs with time to fill and a security that belies their usefulness to the organization.
Business is now done through intermediaries who are specialists in the field and know the people connected with it. Here ideas and imagination are required and very little capital. Ability to listen and energy to make things happen through other people is sufficient to develop a career. Freedom at the expense of security is what the next generation will seek. Organization employment that consists of boss, subordinates, a routine, paperwork and people to push them has had its run. People will grow up with something to sell.
Centralized reporting – and not centralized control – will be the way companies will get organized. Power will be exercised not through status and hierarchy but with expertise. The leader will hold the organization together by his personality and vision and not through exercise of his positional power. At different levels, it is the role that decides who the leader is than the status hierarchy.
Total quality, lower costs, customer value, growth and innovation are the objectives aimed at. The strategy pursued for achievement is process improvement, value chain management and flexi organizations. But it is people that have to change their mindset to accept change. The front- line staff, make things happen and it is their commitment that is basic to accepting to change. What we see is a disconnection between the top and the front line. A confrontational environment and conflicting objectives set the start of the game. Change is emotional and not rational and is individualistic in its acceptance. Change is a change in relationships, in objectives, and in ways of thinking as well. |

| STEPS TO SUCCESS |
the finish line. The moral of the story is "Slow and steady wins the race." The story does not end here...
The hare goes home and soon understands that complacency and overconfidence were the reasons of his defeat. He vows not to repeat the mistake again. He then invites the tortoise for another race. The tortoise agrees to his friend's request. They meet at the appointed day and time at the starting point. The race starts. This time the hare dashes off to the finishing line without taking a break and wins the race comfortably. The moral of the story is "Fast and steady wins the race". The story does not end here...
The tortoise goes home and thinks hard. He was aware that the hare couldn't’t be defeated in speed. He then ponders over his core competence. At last he finds a solution and invites the hare to another race. This time the course is changed. It is from Paldi to Airport. The hare agrees. At the appointed day and time the two meet at the start line and the race begins. The hare dashes off like a flash. Soon he arrives at the banks of river Sabarmati and is overwhelmed by a sense of dejection, as he did not know how to swim. The tortoise comes to the bank, looks at the hare with sympathy and coolly gets into the water. He swims to the other side goes to the airport and comes back. The moral of the story is "Core competence wins the race." But the story does not end here...
Both the friends decide it was enough of racing against each other. Why not think hard and find a way by which they together could travel from Paldi to airport in the minimum possible time. At the end of a brain storming session they come out with a solution and decide to try out the next morning. At the appointed time they meet at the starting line. The tortoise sits on the back of the hare. The hare dashes off form Paldi to the banks
of Sabarmati. There the hare gets on the back of the tortoise and the tortoise swiftly crosses the river. On reaching the other side the tortoise again sits on the back of the hare. The hare runs as fast as he can to the airport. Thus they both reach airport in the fastest possible time. The moral of the story is "Innovation and team work wins the race"
